Which travel insurers actually cover adventure activities?
Diving, skiing, trekking and bungee jumping sit in the gap between ordinary tourism and what standard travel insurance covers. Singapore insurers take genuinely opposite positions here — one excludes a named list of them and every other insurer carves at least some of that list back, while others name the exact activities and depths they will cover.
How we picked the standouts
- Whether adventure or sports activities are covered at all, and on which plan tiers
- Whether the insurer publishes a named list of activities or specific limits (such as dive depth)
- Cover for sports equipment, rental replacement, and missed activities
- Only cover described on the insurer's own site is counted
The standouts
GREAT TravelCare (Great Eastern)
Publishes a named list of the leisure adventurous activities it covers — including mountaineering, hiking and trekking, canoeing and white-water rafting, and diving with breathing apparatus — on its Gold and Platinum plans, with sports equipment covered on Platinum only — the figure is in the table's Sports equipment row, which reads it from the policy wording, because its product page publishes no benefit amounts. So the scope is comparable from that page and the limits are not.

Allianz Travel Protect
Publishes a set of sports-specific benefits rather than one adventurous-activities line — a reimbursement for a sports activity you miss, sporting equipment cover with a rental allowance on top of it, and a search-and-rescue benefit towards the cost of being located and extracted, which only Allianz and Allianz Travel carry in our set.

Singlife Travel Insurance
States what it covers sport by sport rather than as a single adventurous-activities benefit — named water sports with a published dive depth, and winter sports with equipment covered against loss, theft and damage. Both are sold as optional add-ons, not as part of the base plan, as is its golf cover.

Sompo Travel Insurance
Covers on-piste skiing and snowboarding without requiring a licensed guide or instructor — its wording exempts those two from the supervision condition every other activity it lists has to meet, where other insurers attach a guide or instructor to the winter sports they cover. Its scuba diving still requires a certification and a buddy, and its trekking an altitude ceiling.

MSIG TravelEasy Flex
Sells adventure cover as an optional add-on on all three plans, the entry-level one included, and names both the activities and the conditions that govern them — scuba diving to 30 metres and no deeper than your own certification allows, mountaineering and trekking to 3,000m, winter activities on pisted terrain and no harder than beginner-to-intermediate, and white-water rafting up to Grade 3 with a qualified guide; every activity it covers must be for leisure and non-competitive purposes, with a licensed operator and its safety instructions followed. A separate optional golfer's package covers equipment, hired clubs, unused green fees and a hole-in-one.
Covered (zip-lining, zip-riding, bungee jumping, parasailing, tandem sky diving, tandem paragliding, tandem hang gliding; sightseeing on a hot-air balloon, helicopter or airplane; canoeing or white-water rafting, with a qualified guide and up to Grade 3; jet skiing, helmet diving and surfing, except big-wave surfing; scuba diving; ice skating, tobogganing, sledging, snow tubing, dog sledding, snow rafting, skiing or snowboarding, snowmobiling; winter activities — not off-piste, ungroomed or unpatrolled, and not beyond beginner to intermediate terrain; hiking, trekking or mountaineering — up to 3,000m above sea level; 42.195 km (marathon); every activity — for leisure and non-competitive purposes, with a licensed operator, and safety instructions must be followed) (all plans), under the optional Adventure and sports cover source · 2026-09-1330 metres (scuba diving — the absolute ceiling, whatever the certification allows) (all plans), under the optional Adventure and sports cover source · 2026-09-13scuba diving, to the depth of the diver's own certification and with a qualified dive instructor or dive master at all times (30 metres (scuba diving — the absolute ceiling, whatever the certification allows)) (all plans), under the optional Adventure and sports cover source · 2026-09-13S$1,000 (S$300 per item (per article)) (all plans), under the optional Golfer's cover source · 2026-09-05S$300 (hired replacement equipment) (S$100 per day (per day)) (all plans), under the optional Golfer's cover source · 2026-09-05

"—" means this table holds nothing comparable to show for that insurer under that heading — the cover may be published and captured in a neighbouring row, or sit outside what we have captured here. It is never a statement that the benefit is excluded, and never a claim to have read the insurer's whole site and found silence.
The exclusion worth checking first
HL Assurance states plainly that its travel insurance does not cover adventure activities. That is not a criticism of the product — it is a clear boundary, and clearer than policies that stay vague until you claim. Its wording draws it as a named list rather than a category — white-water rafting, bungee jumping, jet skiing, off-piste and backcountry skiing, trekking above 3,000 metres, mountaineering and the like, plus any other extreme sport. Leisure scuba diving sits in the same set of exclusions and is carved back out of them: it is covered only on a PADI certification, under a qualified instructor, and to no more than 30 metres or the depth your own certification allows, whichever is shallower. But it makes the point: adventure cover is not a given, and the assumption that “travel insurance covers my holiday” fails precisely when you are doing something interesting.
Conditions hide in the detail
Where cover exists, the qualifiers decide whether a claim succeeds:
- Depth and terrain limits. Singlife names 40 metres for deep-sea diving in its water-sports add-on. MSIG names 30 metres in its adventure-and-sports add-on, but that is a ceiling rather than the cover: the wording runs to the qualified depth of your own diving certification and no deeper than 30 metres, so the shallower of the two binds, and it requires a qualified dive instructor or dive master to be present at all times. Sompo covers skiing and snowboarding on-piste, which means an off-piste run is outside the description, and MSIG attaches the same condition to its winter activities — “not off-piste, ungroomed or unpatrolled, and not beyond beginner to intermediate terrain”.
- Guides and instructors. Sompo’s guide condition does not apply to on-piste skiing and snowboarding, so those two need no licensed guide or instructor — the exemption is scoped to them, and its scuba diving still requires a PADI certification with an equally certified buddy or a qualified instructor, to no more than 30 metres. MSIG’s add-on requires a licensed operator for every activity it covers — so the two winter-sports entries differ on supervision and agree on terrain.
- Equipment versus injury. These are separate benefits, and they can sit on different tiers. Great Eastern covers the activities on Gold and Platinum but the equipment on Platinum only; Allianz publishes limits for both. Some policies cover injury while leaving your equipment uninsured.
- How the benefit is described. Insurers do not carve this up the same way. Some publish one adventurous-activities benefit, while Singlife and MSIG both sell theirs as optional add-ons — Singlife splitting water sports, winter sports and golf into three, MSIG into adventure-and-sports and golf. MSIG’s is available on every plan including the entry one, so the same trip can be covered under different names and sometimes only if you bought an extra.
Where a cell in the table reads “—”, this table holds no figure or description for that insurer under that particular heading. Two different things put a dash there. The cover may be published and captured in a neighbouring row: the scuba diving named inside Sompo’s adventurous-activities benefit — and the on-piste skiing inside Sompo’s — sits that way. Or the benefit may sit outside what we have captured for this table: a dash means this table has nothing comparable to show under that heading, not that we have read the insurer’s whole site and found silence. A dash is never a statement that the activity is excluded — HL Assurance is the one insurer here that excludes a named list of them, and it says so in as many words. We don’t estimate the rest.
If a specific activity is central to your trip, read the named list in the policy wording rather than relying on a marketing summary — and if the activity isn’t named, ask the insurer in writing before you travel.
Information only. Figures come from each insurer's published materials (linked above) and reflect the plan tier named in the column header. Not financial advice — verify with the insurer before purchase.
